Does my M2Tech product need a driver?
It depends on the product and the operating system in your computer.
The following products always need a driver, irrespective of the operating system:
- hiFace (white)
- hiFace Evo
- Young
- Vaughan
Please note that a driver is required for Linux also. The driver is already included in the kernel mainline of most distributions, therefore your Linux computer most probably already has it. In this case, your computer will automatically detect and use your old M2Tech product: no need for install or kernel recompile. On the other hand, certain special custom distributions may not have the driver included, therefore it must be manually added by the user or the distribution provider.
The following products are USB 2.0 Audio Class compliant, therefore they are natively supported by OSX and Linux and only need a driver for Windows:
- hiFace Two (black)
- hiFace DAC
- Joplin
- Joplin MkII
- Young DSD
- hiFace Evo Two
- Evo DAC Two
- Evo DAC Two Plus
- Evo PhonoDAC Two
- Young MkIII
Where can I download the driver for my M2Tech product from?
Links to download drivers are located in the support page on M2Tech website.
Choose your product and the operating system used in your computer.
I downloaded the Windows driver from M2Tech website, but when I launch setup,
I get a warning message about files not being available for installation and then setup quits.
This is a common mistake: the user double-clicks on the downloaded zip file and then launches setup from the windows that pops up.
This is not correct. The right procedure is:
- create a temporary folder
- double-click on the downloaded zip folder
- when the windows pops-up, select all files and drag them to the temporary folder
- launch setup from the temporary folder
I can’t download the driver as the anti-virus program warns me that it is infected with a virus and quits download.
It’s a false positive by certain antivirus only. Our drivers are all clean.
Please disable the antivirus, download and install the driver and then re-enable the antivirus.
I have a hiFace/hiFace Evo/Young/Vaughan, may I use the driver for hiFace Two/hiFace Evo Two/ Young DSD?
No: you can install it, but the driver will not detect the old product.
Is there an Android driver for my M2Tech product?
No: Android doesn’t use drivers for audio, therefore is up to the audio app to support audio peripherals in user space mode.
Is there an iOS driver for my M2Tech product?
No. Therefore, legacy M2Tech products using M2Tech proprietary USB interface cannot be used with any iOS product. On the other hand, all products using XMOS interface are natively supported by iOS, therefore can be used with iPhone 6 and newer, and iPad.
Is there a Sierra or El Capitan driver for my hiFace/hiFace Evo/Young/Vaughan?
We are very sorry for not being able to deliver a Sierra or El Capitan driver for certain legacy M2Tech products. We have developed a beta driver in Q2 2016. Unfortunately, due to a bug in Apple development tool (which we are obliged by Apple to use to develop Apple drivers), we were not able to certificate the code. Without certification, Sierra and El Capitan don’t allow to install it. We asked Apple for support several times to no avail, therefore the driver is not released yet.
I can’t find the big red “T” icon to launch the Windows driver control panel in my PC.
Newer Windows driver releases now have a different icon with “M2”.
Features
Does the Young DSD accept native DSD?
No, it only accepts DoP.
Which differences between the Evo DAC Two and the Evo DAC Two Plus?
Feature | Evo DAC Two | Evo DAC Two Plus |
DAC | ES9010K2M | ES9018K2M |
SNR | 106dBA | 120dBA |
External clock input | No | Yes |
I2S input | No | Yes |
DAC IC output | voltage mode | current mode |
Buffer | NE5532A | OPA2209 |
May I hook the Evo Clock Two to the Evo DAC Two?
No, it hasn’t any input for an external clock.
Is the Young DSD volume control analog or digital?
It is a digitally operated analog volume control, which operates on the analog signal downstream the I/V converters. This means that no digital processing is performed on the signal before conversion, potentially retaining the full resolution of the 0dB signal.
Is the volume control in Evo Two products analog or digital?
It’s digital, performed in the processing core of the D/A converters. ESS uses a special high-resolution processing engine which limits signal detriment in the volume control to a minimum.
Can the ADC in the Evo PhonoDAC deliver DSD?
No, it only delivers PCM up to 384kHz/32bits.
Can I rip vinyl using the Evo PhonoDAC Two or the Joplin MkII and my phono preamplifier?
Sure: phono equalization can be disabled in both units and gain can be set to a value which suits your phono preamplifier output level.

Does the Evo PhonoDAC Two/Joplin MkII perform de-clicking and track separation during ripping?
No, you need the recording software to do that.
May I drive a long digital cable run with my hiFace Two?
It mainly depends on the DAC’s receiver sensitivity. Generally operation is granted up to 192kHz on a maximum distance of 2.5m.
May I drive a long digital cable run with my hiFace Evo Two S/PDIF output?
Yes. Thanks to the possibility to double the output level, distances up to 10m can be easily handled.
Does my M2Tech device’s Toslink optical input accept 176.4kHz and 192kHz?
No as a general rule, the receivers we use are only specified for 96kHz. Depending on the transmitter strength and the fiber quality, we have seen that 176.4kHz can be easily reached and, sometimes, even 192kHz.
Operation
I want to dim my Evo Two product display.
This is not possible as the display backlight in hiFace Evo Two, Evo Clock Two, Evo DAC Two, Evo DAC Two Plus and Evo PhonoDAC Two is hardwired to the supply voltage.
I want to put my Evo Two product in standby.
This is not possible, you may only switch it off by disconnecting the supply or by the output power switch of the Evo Supply Two, if used in conjunction with any Evo Two product.

My Young DSD doesn’t retain the new settings.
The Young DSD only stores settings when it is switched off by the front panel button. If you switch the Young DSD off by disconnecting or switching off the power supply, it will not store the recent settings and will revert to the old ones at subsequent power up.
May I use the hiFace Two to send digital music to my computer?
No, the hiFace Two is an output only device, therefore you can only send music from the computer to a DAC or other digital audio device for playback.
My old Young DAC sometimes swaps channels.
A firmware update is available to solve this bug, the unit must be sent to factory as field update is not possible.
My old Young sometimes clips with high recording level tracks.
A firmware update is available to solve this bug, the unit must be sent to factory as field update is not possible.
My hiFace Two/hiFace DAC doesn’t work well with my Mac: music only flows for a few seconds and then stops, I need to cycle power in order to restart it.
An update is necessary. As different memory IC’s were used during production, no single firmware is available for all hiFaces Two around. You must send the serial number of your hiFace Two to info@m2tech.biz, we will reply you with the right firmware for your unit. In a few cases, you will be asked to send the hiFace Two for in-factory update, as field update is not always possible.

May I use the hiFace DAC to drive my headphones?
The hiFace DAC is not a headphones amplifier. Therefore it cannot deliver enough current to drive any headphone. Anyway, certain headphones with high impedance (namely, 32 Ohms or more) and high sentivity can be driven by the hiFace DAC.
May I use the Young DSD to drive my power amplifier?
Yes: the maximum output level of the Young DSD can be set to 5Vrms (single-ended) and 10Vrms (balanced) by menu to cope with every power amplifier around, even the least sensitive.
How can I drive my M2Tech product from an Android device?
Legacy products (except the Joplin ADC) cannot be driven by any Android device. Present production units can be driven by an Android device when an app which supports USB 2.0 Audio Class is used. As an example:
- Audio Recorder Pro supports UAC 2.0 and can be used for both recording (with Joplin MkII, hiFace Evo Two or Evo PhonoDAC Two) and playback.
- USB Audio Player Pro supports UAC 2.0 and can be used for playback
Note: it’s necessary to use an OTG cable

My hiFace/hiFace Evo/Young/Vaughan, which worked well with my old Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 computer,
now doesn’t work with my new Windows 10 PC.
Most of the times the problem is due to Windows 10 power save features. Disable all power save features and try again.
Sometimes, the 3.0 USB controller settings of your mainboard BIOS must be set to enable 2.0 legacy support.
If you updated your PC from Windows 7/8.1 to Windows 10, then you may need to uninstall the driver and install ita again from the scratch.
Finally, you may try inserting a 2.0 USB hub between the PC and the M2Tech device.
My I use my old Evo Clock with the new hiFace Evo Two or Evo DAC Two Plus?
May I use my old hiFace Evo with the new Evo Clock Two?
Sure you can.
May I deliver multi-channel compressed audio from my computer to my AV receiver using an M2Tech interface?
Basicly you can when the player can be set to deliver compressed audio to a two-channel audio card and the deliver mode is bit-perfect (WASAPI or ASIO under Windows, for example). Please ask the player providers.
Simplistic yet very handy piece of software that makes it as easy as possible for you to manage your computer's drivers and deal with Microsoft's Driver Store
What's new in DriverStore Explorer 0.11.64:
- Japanese and Korean translation updates.
- Add Keyboard shortcut support.
DriverStore Explorer is a lightweight, unpretentious yet highly useful piece of software that provides you with a straightforward way of dealing with Microsoft's Driver Store.
Even though it helps you add and install driver packages (staging), chances are you will find this little app especially useful when it comes to cleaning older driver versions, thus recovering valuable volume space.
Make sure that .NET Framework 4.0 is present and run it as admin, that's all
Getting started with DriverStore Explorer is as simple as you can imagine since the app doesn't even require installation. Be that as it may, you will still need to make sure that .NET Framework 4.0 or later is present on your computer's system before running the app.
While we're on the subject, it's also worth pointing out that running this utility without administrative privileges might result in a limited user experience, with various features being disabled.
Novice-accessible driver manager
Start the application, and it automatically provides you with a comprehensive list of all the driver packages staged in the current driver store. It's worth mentioning that this list can be easily exported as CSV.
As mentioned before, the app's operation list is not exactly complex, so you should have absolutely no problem working with it. You can add and install a driver package to the store, delete a package, and even force delete it if that's deemed necessary. The app is also capable of deleting multiple driver packages at once.
The simplest way of dealing with Microsoft's Driver Store
Taking everything into account, DriverStore Explorer offers you a quick and efficient way of dealing with Driver Store driver packages, cleaning older version drivers and avoiding potentially unwanted drivers from re-installing or auto-installing on your computer's system.
